GFS Illuminati at Two
GFS Illuminati is probably the stallion that I have always dreamed of owning. To have actually bred him, is simply incredible and something that I am so grateful to have had the opportunity and good luck to have achieved in my breeding career.
He is only now rising three in 2023 and has a long way to go yet. But, all the signs are looking promising and having attained a preliminary Licence with the BPS, we covered two very special mares last year with him to give us an idea of whether he throws as well and as true as his rather special pedigree suggests!
Illuminati, or 'Frodo' as he is known is tall, well built with good conformation. He has elegant lines and an exceptional turn of foot. His movement is big, fluid and expressive; he covers the ground effortlessly and demonstrates natural elasticity and cadence.
His temperament is without compare, he is mild mannered, relaxed and a pleasure to handle. He shows enormous respect, a kind and willing attitude as well as a very loving personality. I cannot wait until we have an opportunity to see him under saddle, although that will likely be another year away yet as I believe in giving young horses the time and opportunity to develop both physically and mentally before burdening them with too much, too soon!
I purchased his Grandsire Paddy of Liosin in utero from Ireland in 2011. His dam had caught my eye, she was by Olympic Lux and a near ideal example of an Irish Sporthorse/warmblood sport horse. She had been produced for show jumping and was demonstrating tremendous scope, attitude and turn of foot before an accident dictated an extended period of rest. She was subsequently put in foal and produced such quality that she was destined never to return to ridden work sadly and has remained a very precious broodmare.
She is a wonderful mare whose strength, athleticism, huge character and great temperament are beyond compare.
I purchased his Grandsire Paddy of Liosin in utero from Ireland in 2011. His dam had caught my eye, she was by Olympic Lux/Lux Z and a near ideal example of an Irish Sporthorse/warmblood sport horse. She had been produced for show jumping and was demonstrating tremendous scope, attitude and turn of foot before an accident dictated an extended period of rest. She was subsequently put in foal and produced such quality that she was destined never to return to ridden work sadly. She has produced show jumpers up to 1.40, eventers (including Paddy who we produced to Novice before selling him) as well as a daughter who competed at Novice dressage. This incredible mare also produced two sets of healthy twins, the first set are just starting under saddle and the second set, now rising three are all set for eventing careers. This is quite some mare!
Her sire, Olympic Lux, celebrated stallion and sire of International showjumpers. A dual purpose sire with many successful eventing progeny, he was sired by Lux Z, one of the most successful stallions in International showjumping. He competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. A winner of over a million euro, his pedigree is something of a blue chip dynasty in the world of International competition, with a litany of champions peppering every extension of the family tree!
Paddy's sire Cown's Ace of Pearl has acquitted himself with success in each of the three Olympic disciplines and has proven a sire whose progeny benefit from the most exceptional temperaments and willingness under saddle. His sire is the Danish Grand Prix show jumper Crown's Blue Pearl. Crown's Blue Pearl is both a showjumping International and the Danish Gold Medal winning stallion of the year 2007.
From Paddy, I bred GFS Eskimo Jo who is GFS Illuminati's sire out of a Graded Holsteiner mare of superb show jumping lines.
Paddy of Liosin
GFS Eskimo Jo
GFS Eskimo Jo is the most striking stallion. Standing at 18hh, he has superb conformation, power, presence and exudes charisma and glamour with a golden coat of such iridescence that it has to be seen to be believed.
'Mojo' as he is known here has been Graded with the AES, achieving superb scores across the board and gratifying comments on the day.
We have produced him under saddle and he has delighted and impressed at every step, showing a natural and enthusiastic aptitude for learning and demonstrating a huge talent for dressage and enormous scope, as well as style over a jump.
Regretfully a series of disastrous accidents during his early years before backing has limited the amount of work he does and precluded him from the career competing that we dreamed of and that he so deserved.
This stallion has a superb outlook on life and is kind, willing and full of fun. More information can be found on his own Page.
GFS Eskimo Jo's dam was a Premium Graded Holsteiner mare and ex show jumper with placings German Kl.L + Kl.M and her breeding read like a who's who of equine superstars. She was by Corrado I (Cor de la Bryere/Capitol I) and out of a Landgraf/Caletto mare.
Corrado combines the blood of the two great Cs – Cor de la Bryère and Capitol, with a healthy dose of Thoroughbred on the dam line through Maestose xx and Frivol xx – and yes, all those familiar names appear on their pedigrees. Frivol has two crosses of Bay Ronald, while Maestose has Pharos on both sides of his pedigree, along with Bayardo, Hurry On and Son-In-Law. Maestose was the sire of the advanced showjumper, Maracaido.
won the Grand Prix of Leeuwarden in 1993, and were second in the Nations Cup at La Baule. In 1994, Corrado won the World Cup Qualifier at Dortmund and finished third in the Nations Cup at Aachen. He also won the German Championship that year. In 1996, he won the Danish World Cup Qualifier at Aarhus, and the Grand Prix of Neumünster and Kiel. In 1997, Franke and Corrado were third in the Hamburg Grand Prix and fourth in the Grand Prix of Göteborg.
As a sire, Corrado was again, an instant success. His international jumpers include: Classic H with Helena Persson, Cher with Piet Raymakers, Corrada with Peter Charles, Cosmina with Markus Fuchs, Cosmos Star with Evelyne Blaton, Caramia with Espen Johannsen, Canyon with Tim Grubb, Think Twice with Leopold van Asten, and Cabrio with Felix and Toni Hassman. Cattani competed at the 2005 European Championships with Spain’s Manuel Saro Fernandez, before the ride was taken over by Geir Gulliksen – the pair were in the Norwegian team at the 2008 Olympic Games. Carsten Otto-Nagel won the Riders Tour in 2008 with the mare, Corradina, and the next year, the pair were second at the European Championships in Windsor in the bronze medal winning German team.
Perhaps his most spectacular son is the grey stallion, Clinton, who was individually 4th at the Olympic Games in Athens, and second behind Shutterfly at Aachen in 2005.
Fifteen Corrado sons have been approved for breeding in Holstein and his sons, Corofino I, Coriano, Coronado and Clinton have themselves already produced licensed sons.
By the end of 2006, Corrado I recorded with 95 progeny who had jumped at an international level.

His maternal G.Grandsires were none other than the legendary Cor de la Bryère and Landgraf.
Described by breeders as a 'gift from heaven', Cor de la Bryère has had an incredible impact on the Holsteiner breed, occurring in more than 70% of Holsteiner pedigrees, and is credited for improving the breed's jumping technique. He also had a huge impact on the Oldenburg breed.
‘Landgraf dominated the breeding scene in Schleswig-Holstein for over ten years. The success of his offspring both in terms of breeding and sport performance led to the demand for the stallion becoming almost insatiable.
Nearly sixty colts by Landgraf I have been licensed for the Holsteiner studbook,
Illuminati's dam, It's Magic was a remarkable mare of both quality and talent. Graded into the Westfalian Head Stud Book, she is by Hogwart the International Grand Prix showjumping stallion and Westfalian Stallion Champion (Concorde/Voltaire/Nimmerdor) This is a stallion of such quality that he is Licensed into the Belgium Warmblood, Holsteiner, KWPN, NRPS (Dutch) and Westfalian Studbooks. She was out of a Cassini/Caletto mare whose pedigree is steeped in International showjumpers.
Magic was something of a dream mare to own. Aside from her obvious talent, incredible movement and rare beauty, she had the greatest attitude and most generous nature imaginable.
Prior to a retirement prior to actually fulfilling her huge potential in competition, she jumped successfully to 1.20, with wins to BSJA Foxhunter and Notational winnings of £1153 (There are video's of her competing on our Broodmare Page. . This beautiful horse was simply wonderful, with a lovely intelligent, willing outlook. Her loss in 2021foaling Illuminati's full brother was soul destroying.
Her foals to date have been superb, each benefiting from her lovely kind nature and expressive paces and obvious raw talent. I have every expectation that with at least two in professional homes now, they will be shortly emerging under saddle in a blaze of glory!
It's Magic's paternal G.Sire Concorde was solidly bred to jump on both sides. Aside from his sire, Voltaire, his dam, Flyer, was by the legendary Marco Polo.
Concorde was an international jumper with Jos Lansink. They won the Grand Prix of Nordrhein-Westfalen at Aachen and they were Champion of the Netherlands in 1994, and placed 2nd in the Grand Prix of Amsterdam, Darmstadt, Lanaken, Helsinki and Gothenburg.
For three years in a row, Concorde was the sire with the most offspring at the World Breeding Championships for Young Jumping Horses. In the year 2001 alone, Concorde produced 17 jumpers who entered Grand Prix ranks, including Audi’s Jikke, Audi’s Kathja, Conquest II, Larino, Viktor, Jacquet, Humphrey and Isabella. In 2003, three of his progeny qualified to go to Las Vegas for the World Cup final – they were Marius Claudius, Conquest and Viktor.

It's Magic's paternal G.Sires were the International breeding stallion Cassini I and Lord Caletto GZ.
Cassini was one of the most successful Holstein stallions of all time, sired by Capitol I out of the mare Wisma who is a daughter of Caletto II, As a sire Cassini I has bred many outstanding progeny, notable offspring includes Eurocommerce Berlin, Cumano, Cheers Cassino and many many others.
Also, Lord Caletto was a Life Approved Holstein stallion. His International Sports Stallion status made Lord Calletto gz in a class of his own ! He won his 100 day performance test with 145 points in dressage (1st) and 138 points in jumping (1st) Lord Caletto is also one of the few stallions to have received Elite status Grading from the AES awarded by Kees Van Den Oetelaar . He was also graded with the swiss fed and the BWBS . Lord caletto is also on the GOLD BRITISH SHOWJUMPING ELTE REGISTER OF STALLIONS . He won several times over 2,10m and higher, won six-bars at 1,80-1,90-2,00-2,10m
His perfect jumping-technique, his endless capability together with his natural carefulness made him an absolute dream both as a competition stallion and as a progenitor.
It's Magic's maternal dam sire Pit I, a great progenitor in his own right was sired by the incredible stallion Pilot was the youngest showjumper millionaire that has ever existed among Germany's stallions. By the end of 1999, Pilot progeny had earned a staggering DM 6,250,000. Pilot's breeding influence exceeds Westphalian borders. He is represented in almost all German breeds.
